Knowledge sharing

The goal of this component is to develop overarching knowledge-sharing platforms and implement an extensive communications strategy to ensure that information arising out of the activities of the other three components is packaged in easily accessible formats and disseminated to all target audiences.

It tailors research results to specific geographic audiences and language groups. It also constantly develops and updates new tools, platforms and methodologies to reach policymakers, practitioners and other key stakeholders to achieve sustained impact. The approach has evolved throughout the first two years of the project to make the most use of new partners, networks and opportunities.

Among the component's key outreach activities are a series of conferences and events, including Forest Day, an annual one-day conference on the sidelines of the UNFCCC Conference of Parties. The latest one in Mexico was attended by 1,500 people, including the Mexican President, more than 250 UNFCCC negotiators and over 100 journalists. Other top outreach tools include this Forests Climate Change website; CIFOR's Forests Blog; Facebook and Twitter feeds in English, Spanish (for Latin America) and French (for Africa); YouTube; and Flickr. Component 4 has undertaken media training and developed REDD+ publications targeted at journalists and other stakeholders. It has also developed and launched a website in Indonesian on REDD+ together with the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry.
